Visualisation

Kunkyen Dolpopa appears in front of you in the form of blue Vajradhara surrounded by the entire field of merit. Looking in your direction, his gaze is filled with great love.

NAMA SHRI KALACHAKRAYA

I go for refuge with vivid faith in the lama, yidam and the Three Jewels.

(Repeat the above line three times.)

May I generate immeasurable love, compassion, joy and equanimity towards all beings!
May I diligently practise the profound path of guru yoga for the sake of all beings!
May all impure, temporary appearances dissolve into emptiness.

Seated on a throne on top of my crown, upon a five-layered seat of a lotus, moon disc and so forth, my root lama appears as the great Vajradhara. His body is blue in colour and has one face and two arms.

He is seated in a full lotus posture. He is draped in elegant silk garments and his body is adorned with precious jewels and bone ornaments. He holds a vajra and bell crossed at his heart.

The four centres of his body are marked with four syllables, light rays emanate outwards from the syllable HUNG (ཧཱུྃ) at his heart, invoking all the root and lineage lamas together with the entire field of refuge,

DZA (ཛཿ)   HUNG (ཧཱུྃ)   VAM (བྃ)   HO (ཧོཿ)
Becoming inseparable from them.

Supplicating the Lama

Precious lama, I pay homage to your body, speech and mind. Your body is adorned with unchanging, perfect marks and signs. Your uninterrupted Brahma-like speech pervades the ten directions. You abide in the unmistaken mind of the great seal.

I prostrate to you who is the embodiment of the thirty-six Tathagatas, unveiled when the thirty-six aggregates are perfectly purified through the six vajra yogas such as withdrawal and so forth.

I offer with joy and pure intention an inconceivable ocean of Samantabhadra offerings, including all virtues of body, speech and mind gathered during the three times!

I openly confess all my negativities amassed through body, speech and mind, and pray that they be purified. I rejoice in all virtue! I wholeheartedly request that you turn the wheel of Dharma without ceasing! I implore you to remain forever in samsara for the sake of all beings!

I pray to my glorious lama. Your nature is inseparable from the four Buddha-kayas. You are the chief of all vajra holders, having completed the three accumulations and attained the twelve paths. Please bless me!

I pray to my glorious lama. You have fully realised the five wisdoms, and have completely transformed the eight objects of dualistic conception By abiding for a single moment in non-dual primordial awareness. Please bless me!

I pray to my glorious lama. Your enlightened activity is one with the activity of all the lamas, liberating and maturing fortunate disciples through the twelve empowered attainments of the generation and completion stages. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are one with all the yidams, your aggregates are the six Buddha-families, your consciousnesses are the eight bodhisattvas, your arms, legs and so forth are the assembly of wrathful deities. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are one with all the Buddhas, your nature is the magnificent body of truth, you have perfected the two accumulations and manifest countless emanations for the benefit of beings. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are one with all immaculate Dharmas, You manifest as the teachings and texts of ultimate meaning, You lead us to the inexpressible profound truth. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are one with all the great lords of the Arya Sangha who abide in the ten bodhisattva levels, having attained complete liberation and accomplishment; You are the immaculate virtuous friend, a refuge for all beings. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are one with all the Dharma protectors who destroy all enemies and obstacles through the power of your non-dual compassion. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You are the origin of all siddhis, bestower of both supreme and common accomplishments, as you have mastered the actions of pacifying, expanding, controlling and subduing. Please bless me!

I pray to the glorious lama. You dispel all darkness as you clear away wrong views by composing, debating and explaining the sutras, tantras, treatises and pith instructions. Please bless me!

By drinking the nectar of his precious Dharma instruction on the profound meaning, from this day onwards may I follow the lama like a shadow. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Without consideration for food, clothing and luxuries, having abandoned wrong and impure livelihoods, may I taste the nectar of Dharma with the tip of my tongue. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

From this day onwards may I remain in an isolated place, meditating single-pointedly upon the profound meaning, so I may reach the great seal of liberation in this very lifetime. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

May I see the four syllables at the chakras of the lama’s body as the four Buddha-kayas.
May I receive the four empowerments by focusing upon them.
May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Receiving the Four Empowerments

From the OM (ཨོཾ) at my lama’s forehead, a white OM (ཨོཾ) streams forth and dissolves into my own forehead chakra. Through this power may I receive the vase empowerment. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Through this power may I purify the obscurations of the body and waking state, experience the four joys and unveil the vajra emanation body. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

From the AH (ཨཱཿ) at my lama’s throat, a red AH (ཨཱཿ) streams forth and dissolves into my own throat chakra. Through this power may I receive the secret empowerment. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Through this power may I purify the obscurations of speech and the dream state, experience the four excellent joys and unveil the enjoyment body of vajra speech. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

From the HUNG (ཧཱུྃ) at my lama’s heart, a black HUNG (ཧཱུྃ) streams forth and dissolves into my own heart chakra. Through this power may I receive the primordial wisdom empowerment. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Through this power may I purify the obscurations of mind and the deep sleep state, experience the four supreme joys and unveil the Dharmakaya body of vajra mind. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

From the HO (ཧོཿ) at my lama’s navel, a yellow HO (ཧོཿ) streams forth and dissolves into my own navel chakra. Through this power may I receive the sacred fourth empowerment. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

Through this power may I purify the propensities of attachment, experience the four innate joys and unveil the primordial vajra wisdom of blissful emptiness. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

The lama at my crown melts into light and dissolves into me. He abides in the centre of an eight-petalled lotus at my heart. May my glorious lama bless me so that this is accomplished!

(Meditate on the natural state of the inseparability of your own mind and that of your lama, the great dharmakaya truth body, and remain in the non-conceptual state of dharmadhatu for as long as you can.)

Dedication

Through this practice, may all beings purify all their stains and obstacles and swiftly reach the essence of the Tathagata.

May I not give rise, even for an instant, to wrong views about the glorious Lama’s liberating appearances. With a devotion that sees everything he does as excellent, may the blessings of the Lama enter my mind.

In future lives may I never be separated from my glorious lama. May I never be separated from the joy of practicing the precious Dharma. May I accomplish all the enlightened bhumi levels and paths and quickly attain the state of Vajradhara.
